Happy New Year ~ 2008

Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year! My husband Bill and I spent a nice quite evening at home on New Years Eve watching the ball drop in Times Square. Our New Years eves are usually spent in reflection rather than out on the town; which is really nice.

January 1, 2008 the beginning of a new year filled with plans and unknowns. February will bring us an extra day this year; my son will be 24 on March 24th; we will celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary in April; Bill will be 60 in May; Jamie, my daughter, will be getting married in June. These are all anticipations of things to come but this year I hope to let God lead my days rather than rush through them.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Beautiful Red Cardinals

We woke up this morning to rain; lots of rain! Which is a blessing since we are experiencing the worst drought in our states history. But even the rain did not bother these Cardinals as they enjoyed their morning meal. I love the brilliant red color of the males, the females are more of a brownish tan with a hint of red. Hope everyone enjoys this last Sunday of 2007.

Packing Christmas Away

It seems that I just got all my Christmas decorations up and then it is time to put them away again. Next year I am going to have all my decorations up by Thanksgiving Day so we can enjoy them a little bit longer. I did find time today to do a little Goodwill shopping and found beautiful advent wreath complete with bows for only $1.00! I also went back to Corner Cottage Antiques and Collectibles and purchased two small feather trees for next year since they were on sale. The last time I was there I saw a little stove ornament that looked just like one I used to play with when I was little. It was just too cute so I had to buy it!

Vintage Christmas Handkerchiefs

I found these beautiful vintage Christmas handkerchiefs and enjoyed displaying them this year. The colors as so vivid on the poinsettias and the Santa Claus reminds me of the ones when I was small.

New Banner for Nora Lee

I contacted Mary at Isabella's Closet and she designed this beautiful new banner for my blog. I love it! Visit her blog and enjoy all of the banners and logos along with her interesting posts. I told her what I would like and she went from there, I think she did a wonderful job. You can e-mail Mary at IsabellasCloset@aol.com

Birth of a Blog....Nora Lee's Nook

After spending time visiting and reading so many other peoples blogs I decided to create my own. I hope to use this to share my interests. If you would like to join me here goes......

Nora Lee was my maternal grandmothers name, she would have been 111 years old this year. She passed away when I was eight years old. I decided to name by blog after her.

I love Christmas! However, in the past several years it seemed to be so much of a chore that I didn't even want to decorate. With that said I made up for it this year, even my daughter expressed her surprise at how excited I was. On Thanksgiving I pulled out my old Country Living and Country Sampler magazines and let them inspire me. The next day I was invited to a Christmas gathering at my friends house, which could be in a magazine it was so beautiful; that was about all I needed to want to begin my own decorating! I was in my element and after a couple of trips to a Carolina Country (a local store that sells handcrafted furniture and county/primitive decor), and Corner Cottage Antiques & Collectibles, everything started coming together. Posted here are just a few pictures of my efforts.

With that said, of course Christmas is about much more than all of that. I am blessed with a wonderful family and friends who also celebrated Christ birth along with me this Christmas!
